Third Time is a Charm!

On Thursday, September 13, I embarked on my third 24-Hour Creativity Jam. As always, this one played out differently than the others…. I didn’t wrestle with the demons this time, in fact, I decided that I was going to LOVE everything I created, even if it sucked. That was new. And liberating.
Here is a before image of my studio looking so fresh and so clean:

And here is a video update from the halfway point:

This is my studio after the 24 hours were up, looking well worn:

And my video recap of the entire 24 hours.

Ahau You Doin’?

As an admitted oracle card junkie, I’ve got plenty of options when I feel like seeking guidance. However I find myself going back again and again to the following deck: The Mayan Oracle, A Galactic Language of Light. The images come from the ancient Mayan culture, the messages are woo to the max and I’m always profoundly moved by what comes up when using them..

Recently I did a reading and the card I pulled was Ahau, (pictured above, pronounced a-how).

Fun with Fish and Flowers

Two of the whopping three paintings I finished during the most recent 24-Hour Jam are now ready for their final reveal! First up, the lovely lotus!
Ripe with symbolism, this lotus carries the energy of purity of heart, spiritual pursuits, enlightenment and beauty being born from the mud! Given the two paintings that were scrapped so that this one could thrive,… I’d say feels about right.

Art is a Battlefield

Since we last connected, I embarked on a second 24 hour paint marathon (dubbed a 24-Hour Jam (#24HourJam), and detailed at the site 24-Hour Creativity).
If you recall, I was most pleased with the results of my initial 24-hour jam, because I completed 13 paintings including my Yin-Yang owls…. I had a punch list and I clicked through it quite efficiently. Clearly I was hoping for similar results with my second 24-hour endeavor, although this time I opted to be more “in the flow” and I did not have the strict to-do list.

Yin Yang Owls

As you know, I recently completed a 24-hour painting marathon. It was an amazing and insightful experience! (I was about to say it was eye-opening, but the idea of staying awake for 24 hours is anything but eye-opening!)
During that time I completed many paintings, and the two I wanted to officially unveil are the two owls. First one is what I’ve been calling the “Psycho Owl.” The Psycho reference comes from the underpainting on this canvas, which is the Psycho movie poster.…

All in a Day’s Work, Buttface

In looking back over the 24 paint marathon, I have a LOT of take-aways. And they aren’t all artwork!
Quick back story:
My dear friend Whitney… decided to paint for 24 hours straight because her husband and kids were out of town. Plus, she’s all about creativity and getting outside of your “normal” to encourage breakthroughs. I joined in because… well… I love Whitney, I love painting and because I could!

Something Psycho This Way Comes

Years ago when I was in the “I want to paint but I don’t know what to paint” mode, I had a friend ask that I create some artwork for him. Eager to have some sort of direction, I hastily agreed.
“Paint me the Psycho movie poster,” he suggested.
Um… ok. I did it! Well, not entirely. I did about 75% of it, and then got sidetracked and lost interest.…
